When system needs become too great to be handled within a single PC chassis, Amtelco has a solution. As many as 20 PC chassis may be connected together with the use of the XDS Multi-Chassis Interconnect board. This board is enhanced MVIP-90 compliant. The Multi-Chassis Interconnect board provides XDS or MVIP system expansion to a maximum of 1,536 ports in a non-blocking arrangement. Up to 256 ports may be contained in each chassis, and each chassis may be programmed in 64-port increments. The Multi-Chassis Interconnect board allows flexible sourcing and control of system clocks. A clock fallback feature is included for recovery in the event of an external clock failure. This board is also equipped for enhanced conferencing capability. Up to 128 ports may be combined in 42 simultaneous conferences, depending on specific user requirements. The conferencing functions are independent of the multi-chassis interconnections. An MVIP-like command set allows for maximum PC driver efficiency. The Multi-Chassis Interconnect board shares the messaging scheme with all the other XDS boards. Software programmable memory mapping is available anywhere in the 16 Mbyte PC address space, and 2K of Dual Ported Ram is mapped in the PC to conserve I/O addresses and increase performance. DOS, OS/2, UNIXWARE, and Windows NT drivers are available. The Multi-Chassis Interconnect board is compatible with the MVIP MC1 specification for multi-chassis interconnection (utilizing SCSI III Cabling Scheme), and even provides port capacity beyond these specifications. See the MC1 manual for exact specifications. Technology covered under patents 5420852, 5341368 and others.
